The Pirates of Penzance

Part of the review in the Barnes Herald commented thus:

“This production shows a marked improvement on that of The Gondoliers, and that is all the more creditable in that The Pirates is not amongst the most popular of the Gilbert & Sullivan repertoire. The outstanding improvement was in the orchestra, which did play this time as if it had rehearsed.”

The unnamed reviewer then went on to complain at length about audience members humming along with the tunes and stamping their feet in time with the music!

Proceeds to the NSPCC
