Life Is A Cabaret

Do you have a song you’re longing to sing? Are you itching to get back on stage? Blast away the winter blues?

On 19th and 20th February 2022, BROS TC will be performing a cabaret show at the OSO Theatre in Barnes.

With an all-star team of directors on board, comprising of Sian Bowles-Bevan, Darren Moss and Heather Stockwell, and Chris Nash at the musical helm as MD, we are really excited for what we hope will be the first of more such productions at the OSO.

We invite you to come along on Tuesday 16th November and hear more about what promises to be a really exciting opportunity. There will be a short presentation, time for any questions you have about the audition, and following the AGM, a jaunt to the pub!

Our Vision

The OSO in Barnes is lovely theatre that will be set up cabaret-style and seats 60-70 people around tables of 2, 4 and 6. It’s a lovely setting with a raised stage, lighting and sound. The stage space will reflect the rest of the space and take the form of a small cabaret style set (two or three tables and chairs), to give the whole room an encompassing feel.

The show will be based around the very loose theme of ‘Life is a Cabaret’ and comprise of solos, duets and group numbers with some movement, and possibly a few monologues too. The feeling will be organic, relaxed, but meticulously arranged and of a high vocal standard that audiences have come to expect of BROS.

The Saturday show will be an 8pm performance and the Sunday show will be a 6pm performance. The company will comprise of up to 25 people and we are expecting that the audience will be friends/family and BROS membership in the majority, while encouraging some new local audience too. Drinks and sharing boards are available from the bar and so we are hoping for a real ‘cabaret’ feel while singing some amazing songs from the shows!

There will be an audition fee of £5 for non members; auditions are free to members so please do check your membership status if you’re not sure by emailing membership@brostc.org. The show fees for this production have been waived by the Committee, in acknowledgement of the lack of performing opportunities in the past two years.

There’s not much else to say except come along to launch night and sign up!

Audition Information

Audition sign ups

Download an audition form and submit it to academy@brostc.org by Sunday 21st November, 6pm. We are doing things a little differently to usual, in that we are waiting until you’ve all auditioned to decide on the content of the show! We want you to showcase yourself rather than be too prescriptive – this show is such a great opportunity to sing songs we wouldn’t usually be able to! You can therefore audition in one of two ways:

Firstly, you can audition with one of the four songs we will workshop for soprano, alto, tenor and bass. If you would like to do this, the songs are available to download and you can come along on 23rd November from 8-9pm to workshop them if you would like to, before auditions.

Alternatively, if you have a song you would like to sing to show off your vocal skills or because you simply love singing it, then please do! If you choose this option, you will need to be aware that we may cast you but you may not be chosen to sing that particular song if it forms part of the programme – or it may be that we cast you, but the song is not suitable for inclusion in the show. This will be at the discretion of the production team.

If you require accompaniment you will need to include sheet music with your audition form or speak to Chris at the launch night to confirm if he is able to supply.  If you would like to use a backing track for auditions you will need to bring it with you, please let us know on your audition form so that we can ensure we have the room set up appropriately.

The production will include movement, but not dancing – so there will be no audition requirement for dance.

If you are unable to make auditions on either 23rd or 25th November then you may submit a video. Submissions by video will be open from Tuesday 16th November and the deadline for submissions is 8pm on Thursday 25th November. Please indicate if you would like to submit by video when you send your audition form and we will send you details of how to upload.

Please come and find out more at the launch night! Any questions in the meantime do email academy@brostc.org.
