Review

Thoroughly Modern Millie, January 2008Thoroughly Modern Millie is a musical with a book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan and additional songs by Scanlan (lyrics) and Jeanine Tesori (music). It is based on the 1967 film of the same name about a small-town girl who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love – a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. After a West Coast production, the musical opened in 2002 on Broadway.

The musical maintains the basic story line of the original film but, in an effort to be politically correct, tones down many of the stereotypical traits associated with the Asian characters in the film.

Public Testimonials

Congratulations on yet another wonderful show. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance including the fabulous tap dancing, the costumes, design, music and direction. We are very much looking forward to hosting your Centenary Gala.

Best wishes

Karin and all at Richmond Theatre

We found great enjoyment at the performance at Richmond Theatre last Wednesday and would like to send our thanks and congratulations to all the performers and to everyone who contributed to the show. The programme, too, was a superb publication.

Well done all round!

looked and sounded brilliant. So well done to each and everyone of you. It
was a real triumph.

What a wonderful production.

A worthy footstep at the start of another centenary. The performances were uniformly excellent. Voices and dance? Not a pip or squeak out of place. The sets were awesome, for a one week run. As for the costumes - it was a fantastic done deal.

Congratulations to everyone.

Just a short note to say how much my wife and I enjoyed your show.
We think the best compliment we can pay is that it was truly professional
and you must all be very proud of the incredible standard you achieved.

David Armstrong

Just to say what a great time we all had last night at the show. Whoever doesn't get to see it really will be missing out. For me there were no weak spots with everyone on that stage putting on a first class professional performance.

Brilliant!

Sam Thomas

Just wanted you to know that we all thought the show on Tuesday was wonderful. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and I particularly was amazed by the sets and the lighting as well as all the professional performances.
