Overview
Trial by Jury is a comic opera in one act, with music by Arthur
Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. Initially it was played
last on a triple bill; the other two works on opening night were
Jacques Offenbach's La Périchole and Charles Collette's
one-act farce Cryptoconchoidsyphonostomata, which was immediately
thereafter replaced with another work.
H.M.S. Pinafore, or The Lass that Loved a Sailor, is a comic opera
in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S.
Gilbert. It is one of the Savoy Operas, and the first big hit by
Gilbert and Sullivan. This work
was Gilbert and Sullivan's fourth operatic collaboration.
Staged on its Centenary this was the fifth outing for Pinafore
with this company.
Maureen Hope-Wynne was the well respected resident director of
Gemini Opera who also performed at Richmond Theatre.
