Barnes - Our home

Our spiritual home is in Barnes, where we normally rehearse for productions on Tuesday and Thursday nights, with some additional rehearsals on Sundays. We often use St Michael's Church Hall in Elm Bank Gardens, where we can run two rehearsals in parallel as there are two rooms available!  Traditionally we have used Vernon Hall for our marathon Sunday rehearsals.

If you plan to drop in on a rehearsal, please check by emailing any of the below before setting out to ensure that we are actually rehearsing that night, and which venue we are using.

To Say that BROS Theatre Company changed my life is no idle boast. I joined in 1972, for Half a Sixpence. Over the course of that year I met the girl I eventually married, and the handful of folk who were to become my best friends. Thirty-nine years on they are still there - wife included.

Some years ago I joined BROS for ‘Fiddler on the Roof’. In life outside the society I’m a lawyer and also Chairman of London Pride Music Hall. ‘My Fair Lady’ is my favourite musical – I always wanted to play Henry Higgins.

I made my stage debut a very long time ago…however my first BROS show was ‘Man of La Mancha’. Being Chairman keeps me very busy, but I still dream of being Julie Andrews when I grow up!

I have costumed several shows for BROS, but when I started I never thought I’d be organising the wardrobe for shows at Richmond Theatre and Minack! I became Treasurer when the previous one moved to Australia.

My first BROS performance was ‘My Fair Lady’, but my debut was at school as Counsel for the Plaintiff in ‘Trial By Jury’. I love going to the theatre and my favourite show is ‘La Cage Aux Folles’.

I’ve performed in many shows, but my real passion is directing. For BROS I have directed ‘Divorce Me Darling’, ‘Under Milk Wood’ and ‘Calamity Jane’. It is the enduring friendships I’ve made which make BROS membership so valuable to me.

I got roped in for ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ and never left! Currently, I’m responsible for the Publicity for all BROS shows. I’m rather fond of ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, but my ideal role would be MC in ‘Cabaret’.

I love to socialise – hence organising BROS Social events. My favourite shows are ‘Copacabana’, ‘Anything Goes’, ‘Hello Dolly!’ and ‘Cabaret’. I’m waiting for someone to write a Bette Midler musical, so I can play Bette!

My stage debut was aged 11 as a goblin in the musical of The Hobbit. I had to wear a prosthetic nose! Being a dancer, I love shows with great choreography - especially anything Fosse related. I’m also a fan of Sondheim and first appeared with BROS playing Marta in Company.

I enjoy treading the boards, working backstage and editing the newsletter. My stage debut was age 5 playing a snowflake. Outside BROS I work in TV-land and love sci-fi. My perfect role would be starring in a musical opposite John Barrowman!

I first appeared as a thigh-slapping Prince Charming in panto, but I’d love to play Velma Kelly in Chicago. Outside of BROS I have a weakness for a good historical house - I think it's mainly nosiness really - and if there's a good tea room it's a bonus!

Much of my life revolves around theatre – musical theatre in particular. I first worked with BROS as Stage Manager for ‘Trial by Jury’ and ‘HMS Pinafore’. If I could play any part I’d be Jacob in ‘La Cage Aux Folles’
