Richmond Theatre

Overview

The present Richmond Theatre in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, is a British Victorian theatre which opened on 18th September 1899 with a performance of As You Like It.

It is one of the finest surviving examples of the work of theatre architect Frank Matcham, and is located on Little Green, adjacent to Richmond Green.

Many shows either start or end their West End run with a week or two in Richmond Theatre.

Getting there by public transport

By far the easiest method of getting to Richmond is by train (Southwest Trains), tube (District Line) or a multitude of busses (visit www.tfl.gov.uk for routes).

Turn left out of the station and use the zebra crossing to cross the road. On the other side, you'll find an alleyway which will take you to near Richmond Green. Turn left at the left and the theatre is on your left.

Getting there by car

This is the harder option as parking is not very accessible in central Richmond. From coming over Richmond Bridge, turn left down the high street and after the traffic lights (and before the corner), turn left down a side road (it crosses a zebra crossing). There is a car park nearby on the left and Richmond Theatre sits opposite The Green. Alternatively, drive round The Green for spaces.

If approaching from the A316, at the Richmond Roundabout, you will need to take the turning pointing to Twickenham Bridge. Take the first turning on the left. This will lead you to the Green.
