A massive thanks from all on the committee to all involved in representing BROS at the Barnes Music Festival on Sunday at The Kitson Hall in Barnes.

A rather rainy grey Sunday afternoon plus the reputation and history of the society helped to draw in a few locals and a handful (literally!) of Brosites, who were treated to a wonderful repertoire based on the theme of ‘places’.

Ably and entertainingly MC’d by our President, Bob Salter, and musically supported by our lovely Carole Smith on the ‘Joanna’, the cast took us around the world kicking off with a beautiful and melancholy rendition of Anatevka (Fiddler on the Roof).

Solo and ensemble numbers then transported us to various towns and cities and places such as Baltimore, Copacabana, Skid Row, 42nd Street, Kansas City, the plains of Spain, Bronxville, La La Land, the sky, the beach and even the good old East End of London.

The vocals from everyone really showcased the professional level of talent we have within BROS, and considering the limited lighting state and simple but effective staging which, I hasten to add, was all put together in a very short rehearsal period, there was no better way to spend two hours.

The beer and vegetable crisps in the interval helped too! I felt incredibly proud of all the performers and their sheer determination to make the most of this performance opportunity.  You are all stars!

PS – we received the following from the festival organisers: “Many thanks to you and all the BROS TC company for your great performances yesterday. The audience really enjoyed your selection of songs from such a variety of shows and it was impressive that everyone was a soloist. Your narrative which brought it all together and linked to our festival theme was exquisite.”
